Gina L. Pitrone
Executive Director

Gina Pitrone serves as the Executive Director of the Foundation. Previously she served as the first Executive Director of the Sentara Health Foundation. During her 10 years there, Ms. Pitrone established the oral Health Improvement Coalition of South Hampton Roads; facilitated the establishment of Access Partnership, a non-profit corporation to improve access to health care; and was a founding board member of RX Partnership, a non-profit to improve access to medication assistance for medically underserved Virginians. Prior to her work at Sentara, she was the Executive Director of DePaul Health Foundation.

Mike Brinkley
Director of Finance

Mike Brinkley serves the Foundation as its Director of Finance. He is responsible for the preparation of the Foundation’s accounting records and financial statements, as well as management of accounts payable and payroll. Mr. Brinkley has an extensive background in accounting and auditing, with concentration in the municipal field. Prior to joining the Foundation staff, he served the City of Suffolk as Assistant Director of Finance for 11 years, and then served as the Chief Financial Officer for Suffolk Public Schools as Director of Finance for over 19 years.

Mr. Brinkley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech. A lifelong resident of Suffolk, his health interests include tennis and biking.

Rick Spencer
Program Resource Officer

Rick Spencer is a Program Rescource Officer for the Obici Healthcare Foundation. In this capacity, he reviews, analyzes and helps manage the foundation’s grant portfolio and implements the organization’s strategic communications plan. Mr. Spencer previously served as the Community Relations Manager for Bon Secours Hampton Roads where he was primarily responsible for implementing the Let’s Get Real program, a culturally specific heart risk reduction curriculum. Additional responsibilities included Editor of the ConnectCare Courier and involvement with a variety of external networking, marketing and media relations activities for the local health system. He has also worked as associate director of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health; director of Public Affairs at Mount Carmel Health; director of Communications at the Ohio Department of Commerce; legislative aide at the Ohio House of Representatives; and a reporter at the Columbus Dispatch.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Bowling Green State University and an Associate of Science in Print Journalism from Vincennes University.

Tammie Mullins-Rice
Program Resource Officer

Tammie Mullins-Rice is a Program Resource Officer at the Foundation, and is responsible for managing health-related projects and selected funding activities for the Foundation. In addition, Ms. Rice maintains and develops relationships with key health leaders and non-profit agencies necessary to advance the mission of the Foundation, which is to improve health and prevent illness and disease. Ms. Rice also maintains and updates the Foundation website. Prior to joining the Foundation staff, Ms. Rice was the development manager of the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast where she directed fundraising activities for a regional non-profit organization providing girls 5-17 with leadership, service and outreach programs. An employee with the Girl Scouts for 13 years, she also held the positions of membership manager, membership specialist and development and marketing specialist.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore.

Cathy Huband
Grants Administrator

Cathy Huband is the Foundation's Grants Administrator. Her responsibilities include monitoring the financial and programmatic goals of the Foundation's grantees and ensuring the timely completion of grantee reports.   Mrs. Huband manages the workflow for assigned grant  portfolios to ensure responsive collaboration with staff.  She develops financial reports for the Board of Directors and Grants Committees and provides accounting of all grant distributions is in accordance to IRS Regulations.  Mrs. Huband manages the Foundation data base providing collection and analysis of all grant reported data.  Her past work experience includes 10+ years with the Department of Defense in Human Resources, Target Corporation and Nansemond Suffolk Academy.

Diane Nelms
Communications and Program Specialist

Diane Nelms is the Foundation’s Communications and Program Specialist. Her assignments include communications programs, event planning and Foundation publications. Mrs. Nelms will also manage the capacity building program and assist with grant initiatives and provides general assistance in team projects including staff retreats, board retreats, coordination of speaking engagements and the preparation of presentations representing the Foundation. Health related research will be assigned that supports mission related initiatives.

Mrs. Nelms comes to the Obici Healthcare Foundation following an 10+ year career at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy where she was the editor of the Fleur-de-Lis magazine/Publications Coordinator. She also worked for United States Senator John Warner.

Mrs. Nelms graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a BA in Political Science and Economics.

Anna Roberts
Foundation and Facility Assistant

Anna Roberts is the Foundation and Facility Assistant at the Foundation. This busy role includes supporting and assisting the Executive Director with the management of a variety of projects simultaneously as well as the asisting with coordination of events to support the Board, Board Committees and the Foundation.

Special projects and events are facilitated, coordination of all office related functions including office operations, monthly documentation of organizational activities, contracts, maintenance of office equipment, software operations, staff and leave management.

Anna comes to the Obici Healthcare Foundation with 8+ years of experience in the healthcare industry.
