Leading Strategist Gary Hamel (Harvard Business Review-Sept 2003) said that resilience is "...ultimate competitive advantage in the age of turbulence - when organizations are being challenged to change more profoundly, and more rapidly, than ever before."
Being a nonprofit leader has never been easy but the demands are even greater now due to the speed of change, the challenge of the economy and required leadership skills. This session will focus on attributes that heighten both personal and organizational resilience including identification of examples from our own organizations to make this learning more concrete.

Strategic Priorities Breakfast

On May 4, the OBICI Healthcare Foundation will host a Strategic Priorities Breakfast at the Suffolk Hilton Garden Inn to review new strategic priorities for health improvement and explain a new process for the RFP and call for concept papers. The Planning Council will give a presentation on health indicators from the 2009 edition of “An Investment in Priorities,” which will also be available to attendees.

Nonprofit organizations are invited to join us on May 4 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Suffolk Hilton Garden Inn, 100 East Constance Road, Suffolk, VA. FBI Norfolk Announces Recipient of the 2009 Directors Community Leadership Award

Special Agent in Charge Alex J. Turner of the Norfolk Field Office of the FBI is pleased to announce his selection of Ms. Veronica McMillian as the local recipient of the FBI’s 2009 Director’s Community Leadership Award. Ms. McMillian is the founder of a community-based, non-profit organization known as Let’s Talk Inc., which provides educational and job training, violence prevention programs, and develops role models for young men and women.

Nurses phone calls help patients lower blood pressure in study

   As Congress weighs options for cutting some of the $2.2 trillion Americans spend on doctors, surgeries, treatments and drugs, some solutions may be as simple as a phone call.

    A team of Duke University Medical Center doctors and nurses has found they can help lower patients' blood pressure with a do-it-yourself monitoring plan and bi-monthly phone calls from a nurse.
